Go to Pinned Playlist for Fall and Winter highlights (above). Coach recommendation from Morgan's High School Coach, Liz Philips. Liz was a 5 season D1 lacrosse player at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Morgan McKinney is one of the top players in Montana. I have coached few athletes more competitive than her. If she gets beat to a ground ball, she will find a way to make it up on defense and earn a turnover. If she gets beat on defense, she takes it personally and refuses to get beat by the same move twice. On offense, Morgan has incredibly crafty stick work and finds a way to make the pass; she is unphased by the need to change levels or throw in fakes to create a feed. This also helps create opportunities for herself as a dodger. If defenders play her as the feeder, she has the footwork and quick step to beat her defender. If defenders play her as the dodger, she will find a way to make the pass. Morgan is also unafraid to be physical. She does not let initial contact deter her from making her move. Even when Morgan is getting pushed towards the ground, she will stay aggressive and see if she can get a shot off. Her competitive edge compels her to keep going and make something happen. Throughout this fall, Morgan has matured a lot as player. She has focused on her dodging and finishing her shot. In the past, Morgan would let her emotions take over and make an unnecessary play. However, this fall she has used her emotions to help her focus on making the next play, whether that be a better dodge, shot, or defensive stand. This is an area of Morgan’s game I foresee continuing to improve this spring and summer. Morgan is a player that can be utilized anywhere on the field. While she expresses more interest in offense, she still is one of our team’s key defenders.
